on our first day of hiking in
Kilpisjärvi we spent the whole morning climbing to the top of
Saana mountain: unfortunately the view from up there was not as mesmerizing as it was last year because of
a thick layer of fog. despite the
unforgiving weather we decided to continue hiking towards
Saanajärvi - a lake that I had not yet seen. it took us a couple of hours to finally reach the lake - which was completely hidden by the fog: how disappointing!
the red and orange colours of the landscape though were so beautiful that our walk had been totally worth the effort.

some might wonder what is so fascinating about hiking through bare and rocky landscapes in such foul weather: I think the
extraordinary silence and the
incredible scenery make it one of the most intense experience one could ever have. it is difficult to express this into words - our first day of hiking was over and
I could not wait to start another one.
It's almost an alien space sometimes, but you are so right it's just so fascinating walking with rock and dark weather! These are fantastic Polly, I'm jealous of the colors you capture!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you understand what I mean and I'm very glad you like the photographs. Thank you!
DeleteIt's fantastic! I love these pictures and I can understand what you love about hiking through those landscapes. I was in Shetland for some weeks in August and it looked similar there. I'm not much of an outdoor person, but I, too, loved it so much, wandering through those sceneries and I miss it already...
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Nancy! Shetland must be truly beautiful - I've always wanted to visit it!
DeleteBeautiful foggy shots!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Fog can be quite fascinating sometimes!
DeleteIn nine days I m going on a hiking trip and I can't think about anything else that makes me more excited than that. It s just to start, and than u can't stop. Beautiful photos and truthful words:)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm sure you're going to have a wonderful hiking time and I hope you'll share some photographs with us!
DeleteI love to walk among trees and mountains, and those colors and the silence u can imagine surrounding the the two of you must make everything worth it*
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sara! I cannot really explain what I felt walking up there, but I know I would do it every day if I could!
DeleteThe colors are perfect ! Would like to go in Lapland now :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, dear Birdie! I'm sure you would take some beautiful shots in Lapland!
DeleteThat paved walkway looks like it leads to somewhere magical. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Katie! It is the walkway that leads up and down from the Saana mountain - it doesn't show much in the photograph, but it is in fact a staircase and the steps are quite large too. Climbing it is quite an exercise!
DeleteIt's almost the same weather I remember it was in summer when I was in Lapland. Such beautiful colours and space!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Ingeborg! I didn't know you were in Lapland too. Was it in Swedish Lapland?
DeleteI've been two times in Lapland, once in Sweden and once in Finland, when I was a bit younger and went on vacation with my parents. I wish I would not be so far away from NL!
DeleteI had never been to Swedish Lapland, but I'm sure it's beautiful too! Actually, Lapland is very far even from Helsinki - it's true we can drive a car from here to there, but it still takes more than 13 hours!
DeleteI love the backgroud fog in these pictures! It makes the amazing foreground colours really strong and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Sirpa! I'm happy you think so too - the fog really helps to bring out the colours, doesn't it?
DeleteWow! What a magical place.
ReplyDeleteHello Erika! Thank you for stopping by this blog. Yes, Northern Lapland truly is a magical place!

ReplyDeleteThank you so much, I'm glad you think so! And thank you for stopping by this blog!
Deletequel percorso solitario è quasi un pò inquietante...
ReplyDeletema che bei colori! *-*
E' la scala che porta alla cima del monte Saana - un po' in salita, ma il panorama merita davvero! Grazie Emini!
