iceland IV.

we spent our third night in Iceland in Borgarfjörður Eystri and started moving towards the northern part of the country the day after: we left the East Fjords passing once again through the mountains to return on the Ring Road. driving northern I was surprised to see the bare rocky mountains becoming fewer and fewer to leave space for greener landscapes with waterfalls, fields and farms: Northern Iceland had appeared to me like one of the most cultivated regions of the country. this third selection of photographs was taken on our way from east to north: that was when we met the reindeers - which apparently live only in Eastern Iceland.
3rd selection of my photographs from Iceland:
Nikon FM - Kodak Ektar 100
Hasselblad 500 C/M - Fuji Pro 400H
while I continue sharing some of my photographs here on Passer Domesticus - I will tell you little by little about the project Jacopo and I are working on: for now I can reveal that it is going to be a coffee table book with a great selection of our photographs and possibly a collaboration with an icelandic artist. that is why I am sharing just a small part of the photographic material that we have actually brought home from Iceland: you will be able to see so much more on the book!

    1. Thank you, dear Silvia! I am looking forward to see them printed in a larger format - hopefully we will be able to present the book by the end of September? I cannot tell you for sure, as we've just started, but I'll keep you all posted!

I know Iceland doesn't seem to be cultivated at all from the photographs I have shared actually, but there are many farms, especially in the North, which are cultivating grass for sheep and horses.

congratulations, polly! the book will be a blast!
these photos are amazing as always... what captivates me the most is the solitude in all of them. empty beautiful landscapes without people in which you can feel the cold weather (at least, it looks like that!)
aha come to portugal, it's warm :-)

    1. Thank you so much, Catarina! I am really glad you like my photographs from Iceland as well!
It was quite cold and windy for June in fact - while we were there, it didn't get any warmer than 15 degrees.
Helsinki is really warm these days though, especially compared to Iceland!

  6. You said earlier that you listened Sigur Ros. If you still live in Finland during November and you like Icelandic music like Sigur Ros - Olafur Arnalds icelandic composer has a gig at Savoy-teatteri 25.11. I just bought tickets and I remembered your photographs from Iceland. ..and your book project sounds interesting!

    1. Thank you for the suggestion, Emilia! I will for sure still be living in Finland for a while and I was just reading about Olafur Arnalds playing at Savoy's - I might indeed get a ticket! I saw him live in 2007, supporting Sigur Ros in Milano, and it was magnificent!

  7. All the photos are amazing, but I love the first one with the slight hint of a very blue sky and the contrast it makes with the rest of the landscape is sublime!

Just by seeing this little sample of photos, I'm pretty sure your book will be a success!

I also like the clouds on the first photograph: they look surreal!
I really hope the book will be a success eventually, thank you!

  8. It sounds like a wonderful project! I think most people would enjoy a whole book of Iceland photographs, myself included! I never do much with my film photographs so it's a great idea! Perhaps one day I will compile them so they don't accumulate dust! Hehe :) Can't wait to hear/see more! x

Oh, you should definitely do something with your film photographs - Jacopo and I collected all the ones we've taken in Iceland in a photo-album with dates and locations.

    1. Grazie, Emi! Sai che si tratta di una cascata privata? Era sulla proprietà di una fattoria, poco lontano da dove abbiamo visto le renne!
