one afternoon in lammassaari.

one of my dearest friends has recently moved to Vanhakaupunki: the perfect location for me to visit her and have a walk around Vanhakaupunkilahti and Lammassaari. I took these photographs a couple of weeks ago during one of our walks: I had never been to that side of Lammassaari before and it was the first time I saw the wooden jetty - perhaps now a new favourite spot of mine.
one afternoon in Lammassaari:
Nikomat EL - Kodak 400
even though these photographs still look very wintry we have had some very springy days too - I will soon give you proof. the days are getting longer and busier for me: I have started a language course to improve my Finnish and I have been selected to work as a volunteer for the Helsinki Photography Biennial - which is very inspiring and fun too! on a sad note I did not pass the selection for the Photography Master programme in Aalto University that I was really hoping to start: it feels bad to know my work was not appreciated enough but I am not going to stop believing in what I do!

  1. Even though the photos still look wintery, there's a hint in there that spring is coming... I don't know why, it just feels like the sky and the air aren't as heavy, if this makes any sense.

In Portugal we say "A door is closed, a window is opened". You are incredibly talented and I'm sure many windows will open up for you. All in due time :)

  6. What all the others said before. Did they tell you why? It is also very courageous to apply for such programs. I wouldn't dare to, and sometimes I don't send my photos to a magazine because I am not confident enough about them, because people are critical (and that is good, if they tell you in a constructive form). But don't let it stop you from continuing with photography. There are other ways to get there. Maybe there is another program you could apply for?

These three photos are beautiful. I especially love the last one with the three buoys. It is almost abstract.

    1. Thank you, Ingeborg. I have already got one BA in photography and I know that could be sufficient, yet I wanted to challenge myself with something more; I knew it was going to be very hard. They haven't told me why - I have just got an electronic reply via e-mail saying unfortunately I wasn't chosen. I'll ask for more explanations.

I'm really glad you like the photographs, thank you!

  10. I'm pretty sure you must send in a request to the university and make them see all the great things we have to say about your work :D jokes aside, if it's something you really want to do you have to keep trying dear Polly! I hope you have fun at the biennial!
